Is "judge not" really a ban on ever speaking into someone's life?
Matthew 7 is one of the most quoted passages in the Bible, and one of the most misused. Nick walks through Matthew 7:1-14 and asks what Jesus is actually forbidding. In a culture quick to cancel and slow to listen, Jesus isn't telling us to stop discerning. He's confronting the censorious spirit: the habit of blaming and condemning from a place of pride. The big question: how does a kingdom person judge rightly?
Nick unpacks the speck and the log, pointing out that Jesus, a carpenter's son, is picturing a roof beam sticking out of our own eye. He shows from 1 Corinthians, John 7, and Proverbs 9 that there's a place for discerning, Spirit-led correction when it comes from love and aims to move someone toward Jesus. He talks about the person in his own life who can call him out, why the call to ask, seek, and knock keeps going, and how the Golden Rule and the narrow gate fit together. The message closes at John 8, where the only One with the right to condemn the woman caught in adultery says, "Neither do I condemn you."
This week, ask the Father to show you the log in your own eye. Then ask Him to give you one person to encourage toward the heart of God. Who needs to hear from you?
